What gym equipment/exercises do you enjoy using? Which do you enjoy the least?

I love the rowing machine. It’s fun and leaves me invigorated.

I hate push ups. They hurt and I have problems doing even one.

I like the idea of wearing leg and arm weights. I only wear a couple of pounds but I try to do it all day. That way I am getting a workout with 10s of thousands of reps without thinking about it.
When I take the weights off I feel like I can fly.

I wish I’d started years ago.

The hardest part of bi weekly gym workout is getting through my wrist and forearm exercises. In that I twist a 30 pound bar forwards and backwards 3 sets of 150 turns and then 3 sets of wrist lifts in each direction until muscle failure.

Pretty tedious to get through >30 minutes of my triceps routine (6 sets of 20 reps hitting 5 different angles including the skull crusher). Also wrist twisters with 10 pound dumbbells and dips.

Then I hit 4 different shoulder machines. Then work on my trapezius and calf muscles with a 135 pound barbell.

Then I work my hams (3 sets of 20 reps 70 pounds). Quads 3 sets 20 of 100 pounds).

Then I go into what I call the round robin of machines doing 3 sets of 20 reps each: back; military press; the fly; leg press; crunch; torsion rotation; bicep curls; pull down; glut press.

Finish with the 4-way neck (3 sets of 20 reps using 25 pounds)

Back stretches using a foam pad and a 15 pound weight.

Takes me over 2 hours to get through it.

Honestly I don’t “enjoy” doing any of it. I do it because I need it.

One person said, “Don’t start lifting weights because you’ll become a slave to your body.”

The truth is that we are all slaves to our bodies no matter what we do or don’t do. What do you want to be? A weak and sick slave? Or a strong and healthy slave? The choice is yours.

When I was doing the Stronglifts program, I really enjoyed it and saw results. The hard part was finding a power rack at the gym that wasn’t in use. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, and bent over rows.

A more OG version of this program is called Starting Strength.
